    The Roman Catholic Church in Guam is part of the worldwide Roman Catholic Church, under the spiritual leadership of the Pope and curia in Rome. The patron saint of Guam and the Marianas Islands is Santa Marian Kamalen, or Our Lady of Camarin. On October 14th, 1965, the vicariate apostolic was raised to a diocese. The first visit by the Roman Catholic Pope was in 1981. Guam sent a delegation of young people for the first time to World Youth Day 2008 when it was held in Sydney, Australia.
